Then I guess it is really random, my 3rd attempt didn't either but everyone saw what my first two yielded.


Redux is 'on hold'. I have however found the files, but it's still (pretty much) dead at the moment.
I wonder if that's actually a good thing...

Also, on the Brick Town issue, I'm sorry. The reason I insist on having you use gameshark codes to get to Brick Town is because that is the way the rumours always said, and that is what I am aiming to recreate.  I realize that at this point there probably more people in the community who have never heard of these rumours than there are people who remember them, but still.  Although in the final red-based version, I will probably include a way for you to get a hidden item (that previously required gameshark) that lets you jump over things.  That way you still have the rumour-like feel, but don't actually need the Gameshark.  Also the reason the rom "turns 2mb" is because the gold/silver rom is always 2mb and has always been 2mb. If you want to play it on your mobile (and aren't using Android or possibly iPhone) you can download the meboy version. If you have an emulator for Android or iPhone, those emulators should be able to load the .gbc file just fine. I know, because I play it on my Android phone using the standard 2mb rom and it works fine.  Hopefully one of the versions I uploaded will work for you though.

Because most people haven't heard about the rumors (I didn't know about Brick Town either before you introduced it in this hack), you could make NPCs tell you about them. Also if Brick Town is going stay in its current location, you could for example make a random NPC tell you "There is this one tile you can walk through to access Brick Town" (having two same looking mountain blocks).

Somewhat against the original idea but I think it works.

That might work. I think I will put in the NPCs mentioning things like that, and I like the idea of the tile that looks the same as the cliff, but you can walk on it.

Well, I don't really know much about that. I used Meboy builder to make the .jar file, and it made a .jad file too. It said some phones need .jad, some don't, so I included both of them. I'm not sure why it would say invalid extension when you try to open the .zip to get to the files, it doesn't give me any trouble opening the file.

There are both .jar and .jad files included in .zip you should try to unzip .jar instead of .jad, it will work:)

You would have to use a gameshark to do that in this version, since you can't get to Cinnabar yet and Cinnabar doesn't even have the event set up if you did go there.

Mate, are you using Tauwasser's tileset extention? I want to know coz after i patch it in a clean rom and play it on vbagx and meboy, the Hiro don't move at all.. Just want to know coz this hack emulates well in meboy..thanks great hack!

I think you should combine this with Mr. Psychic rumour, you can make him give you an item to climb the cliff
EDIT: why pixel form missingno. sprite is different than rby one?

Pixel form missingno should be the same as RB unless something odd happened to his sprite. He should be accurate, although there is no event for him and he won't duplicate items (the event for him on Cinnabar would have made him duplicate them, he doesn't do it naturally like he did in RB). But since he isn't technically part of this release and the Red-based one will have the real Missingno, he isn't a proiority right now really.

As for the tileset extension, I do have it patched for additional map blocks, although I want to think I removed the part for the additional graphics. But its been so long since I patched that part I don't remember honestly if it has the whole tileset extension patch or just the map block expansion part. Either way, this could be part of your problem.

If I was continuing this as a Gold hack I would, but you can't get to the routes that would let you do it yet in this demo (and of course the Red-based version would just have the real mew glitch still in place).

Alright, so in my bug fixing, I've:
-Fixed the bug where Dome Fossil and Helix fossil have a glitched amount in the pack
-Fixed a few text errors
-Made it so you return to the Pokemon Center in Brick Town instead of the one outside of Mt. Moon

Also:
-The "Meowth has the wrong sprite" bug is not actually a bug after all. I double checked, and Meowth actually uses the cow sprite in Red for no apparent reason.
EDIT: I'm an idiot, looked at the wrong thing. Meowth uses the Rhydon sprite in Red, which looks even less like a Meowth.


I'm sure there are a few other typos in the text that I need to catch, and I have one or two more to fix like the super nerd continuing to say "take a fossil" after you already took one. I won't add music to Gary, since it would feel wrong to give him Silver's theme, and I don't want to take the time to manually convert his theme from Red since this is changing over to being a Red hack anyway. I will however add in a way you can get to Brick Town without the gameshark, for those of you that haven't been able to visit it because of the emulator you play on not supporting gameshark codes. I'm also still investigating the Magikarp glitch, but so far I haven't been able to replicate it or find a reason for it.

If you guys can think of any that I forgot to mention here, let me know. Otherwise, I will update the patch once I fix the last of these.

Well, sorry to triple post but nobody's replied with any more input. I just uploaded new versions of the IPS, JAR, and GBC files. These should fix the bugs we mentioned earlier, and will make it so that you can get to Brick Town without the need to use the gameshark. I just added a set of stairs next to Cerulean Cave, and got ride of a few trees that would have been in your way. Now you can walk up there easy as can be. Check the first post for the new download links!

EDIT: You'll want to apply the patch to a clean rom, but your old save file will still work.

However, didn't you do a bouch of other stuff on here, and didn't you make a website (that got terminated recently) called "Mateo's Hacks"? Correct me, if I'm wrong.

Hey, calm ourself bro. This is a DEMO, I never said it was a complete hack. As for "Mateo's Hacks" I never actually made a website by that name. I did put that in the last demo. Adnittedly, it wasn't much longer than this one. I spent time working on Pokemon Christmas (which IS finished, since you love to complain) and I released this one because I finally got around a bug that was causing it to lock up before that.

If you have actual constructive criticism, go for it. But if all you're going to do is run your mouth and talk smack because something clearly labeled as a demo isn't a complete hack, you can go somewhere else.

I don't really know who you are but I've got to say that you're coming across very rude, not to mention stupid.
It takes a long long while to create and finish a hack, especially a Gen. II hack, let alone release a bug-free version.
Look at Brown. Let's see the dates.. yes, it took years. And that's for someone who figured it out all on their own.

If you take a look at Pokemon Secrets and Rumours you have got to appreciate the fact that Mateo reinserted old sprites, redid all the tilesets shown in the hack, re-created every single script, and other little things like the player sprite. That is A LOT of work.

In addition to the long time it takes to release a good, playable significantly-edited hack, the hacker often has other things to do.
Mateo isn't here for the sole purpose of satisfying your need for a "complete" hack.
He never promised a full hack either (from what I know), so I don't understand where the aggression is coming from.

This is it exactly. Hacking isn't my job, its a hobby. It's not even my only hobby, either. I hack if and when I feel like it. Some days I'm too busy (between classes and trying to fix up this old house so I can move in when I graduate in December), and some days I do have free time but would rather spend it doing something else, like playing Phantasy Star Online or hanging out with real-life friends or something.

That being said, it is true that everyone would have liked to see a longer demo this time around, given how long it had been since an update. But like I say, I've been doing other things. Whether that's working on another hack, or doing things completely unrelated to hacking. And that's okay. For example, I like Dark Future that Miksy91 is working on. If he didn't work on it for- let's say a year, then came back and said, "Hey, I started working on it again. Sorry its not much longer, only 1 new town, but here you go!" I wouldn't complain that it wasn't a full hack; I'd just be happy he was working on it again.

I've decided to release a version of SaR with the Johto battle music repointed to load the Kanto battle themes instead (Just changed the 3-byte pointer).

I like that additude of yours.
I too have many other hobbies as well than rom hacking; I like partying, playing soccer and hanging around with friends, ...
I tend not to spend that much time with studies so that's why I probably also get new stuff implemented pretty quickly (yet I still happen to get high grades from most tests in university). Other than all these, rom hacking is actually my favorite way to spend free time :D
